Homeschool Get Together and Friends

I feel so fortunate to have a large group of homeschooling families in the area. Today we met with friends for lunch, play and planning.

I was surprised to see Bella go off with the bigger kids for a scavenger hunt. Bella can be very outgoing and social but not with children older than herself. The older kids teamed up with the younger kids to help with reading the words on the scavenger hunt card. Bella told me that they were unable to find a caterpillar and sea shell because they had to cross the street to get to the lake. She also experimented with wind, weight and time by floating, blowing and pushing feathers. Gillian spent her time with a good friend playing in the rocks with her baby Simon. Actually, if Gillian had worn socks she could have joined in the “filling of the socks with stones” which encompassed a good 20 minutes of her play. Don’t worry though, she used her creative self, and took off her shoes to fill with stones.

So, homeschool will meet on Thursdays to socialize and work on projects. Honestly it is also a break for Mom, as we have many adults helping keep an eye on the kids.

Next weeks lesson plan will be up soon. So far, I have put together a few sheets on how to write a letter. Bella wants to send her sister and grandma a card. I will also add “post office” supplies to the housekeeping area to further the letter writing idea. I also plan to teach Bella her address and phone number.
