Learning Outside of the Classroom and Day 4 of Homeschooling
One of the joys of learning at home is that the world is ours to explore. We believe that learning happens where ever and whenever the opportunity presents itself. We had the good fortune to walk out our door at 10:45 this morning to find a small turtle on our sidewalk. We gently gathered the turtle in a small bucket and set the bucket in a safe place to explore later.
As we have a pond behind our house, we guessed that we had found a Snapping Turtle. A few clicks through google and sure enough we found that the little turtle was indeed a Snapper. So, we gently moved the turtle into a large bowl so we could see it better and we studied its features, tail, legs, head, shell. We also read about what snappers eat. Bella named the turtle Genieveve.
Our female cat, Aurora, tends to be the more inquisitve of our cats and as you can see, she took a look at our new friend. (of course we made sure the turtle was safe at all times). Our some time, we decided it was time to take our new friend back to home or at least what we would assume is her home.
