Outdoor Play and a Muddy House
As a Mom, I have many different kinds of mess. As mentioned in a previous post, I don’t mind mess, that is, until it comes in the form of mud on everything. The spring weather has finally arrived in Western New York, and my two children have been out at least two to three hours a day. After three days of rain (maybe more? I lost count) my girls have tracked in enough mud to create a nice mound, a nice mound of dust and dirt to fill a large dump truck. *laughs* So, what to do about all the mud? Well you can either embrace it by calling it a renewing mud bath or get mad? So what did I do? Did I scream and yell about the state of the house? No, I managed to keep myself calm and instead I jumped in with them and now my skin is so soft. Not, really but I can dream can’t I?
I will offer some tips to mud play:
Send the kids out in the most stained clothes that you have.
Invest in a pair of puddle/mud boots.
Pick up some pots, pan, spoons and other kitchen utensils for outdoor play. (Yay! Yard Sale Time)
Create a space for the kids to stomp and kick off the dirt. We keep a stiff bristle brush near the door to help brush off the mud.
