Outdoor Play

Outdoor play is often thought of in terms of bikes, slides and swings but it can be so much more. I had the oppurtunity to meet Rusty Keeler, an outdoor play expert. His vision for play spaces has inspired me on so many levels. I am beginning to gather my thoughts on an outdoor water environment for children.

His work has helped many oganizations incorporate natural flows of land into their playyard desgins. His use of all the senses when building a play space is not a new idea but a very refreshing one.

With many children having limited access to the natural world it is critical for towns, cities and organizations to not only build play structures that are appropriate and safe but to also build on the natural environment by incorporating plants, trees, flowers and other green “things” into the design.
